Concert Review - The Canvas Waiting (@canvaswaiting) & Ready Revolution (@readyrevolution)
The Canvas Waiting and Ready Revolution played a show at Jack’s Bar on April 16, 2011. I’ll start by telling you that the sound system in Jack’s Bar is terrible. It’s a little difficult to judge a band by the sound in there because everything sounds so tinny.

The first band, Ready Revolution was very radio ready, reminiscent of Kris Allen with a heavier rock sound. They had a lot of energy, and even placated the audience with a cover of Katy Perry’s “Hot & Cold” to peak the interest of those unfamiliar with the band. The cover was entertaining, but they would have done well to rearrange the song to make it more interesting than the bland original. There’s a lot of potential in that song I think this band could easily reveal. This band’s music is meant for cruising down the street on a sunny summer’s day; perfect timing, their EP comes out soon!

The Canvas Waiting played a really mellow and relaxing set, after a stressful night having to deal with their van breaking down. The guitar riffs sounded like something straight out of a sunset: very clean and ethereal. Each one of their songs blended and melded into each other and easily took you away into a beautiful place of imagination and wonder. This is also something I’d enjoy as a summertime soundtrack, laying in a field of flowers and overgrown grass, watching the clouds form in the blue sky above. They performed a cover of “Bizarre Love Triangle” by New Order, which was a fun and upbeat moment in the show. Their last song, “Ghosts”, was a perfect ending to the set, very emotional and danceable. The melody was extremely captivating, leading me to believe I’d have been focusing on the lyrics, were I able to hear them. The lyrics are very audible, however, in the official music video for “Ghosts”, which you can check out below.
